Dr. Mark Fenech Vella B.A., Dip.Trib.Eccl.Melit., LL.D
Dr. Mark Fenech Vella qualified with Bachelor of Arts in Legal and Humanistic Studies in 2004, the Diploma of Notary Public the following year, and the Doctorate in Laws in 2007 from the University of Malta. His 35,000 word dissertation centered on Employment Law and dismissals of employees, titled Unfair Dismissal under Maltese Law in the past twenty-Five years (1982-2007): what emerging Principles and trends?
In that same year he pursued a course in Trusts Law and he obtained the Certificate in Trusts Law and Trusts Administration awarded by the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners in Malta. The IFSP certificate in Trusts Law and Administration is a pre-requisite in order to obtain a trustee and fiduciary licence by the Malta Financial Services Authority. Dr. Fenech Vella also followed a two year course in canonical marriage, qualifying with a Diploma in Canonical Marriage and Jurisprudence and Procedure offered by the Maltese Ecclesiastical Tribunal.
Dr. Fenech Vella was admitted to the bar in January 2008 and spent his first two years in a financial services firm, specializing in Corporate Law, Investment Funds and regulatory and compliance issues while attending a Law Firm in the evening in order to gain practice in Civil and Criminal Law.
Due to his interest in Civil Law and litigation, in March 2010 he also entered the realm of litigation and has in fact set up his own private law firm – FenechVellaAdvocates. His offices are located in Birzebbugia and in Rabat, Malta.
His practice in Civil Law cases consist mainly in Property Law, Administrative Law, Civil Law and Family Law, while his practice in Criminal Law consists mainly in assisting clients at the Magistrates’ Courts. He also assists clients at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Malta and in front of the various Tribunals, including the Industrial Tribunal of Malta.
Due to the fact that he remained interested in financial services and wished to diversify the litigation aspect with Corporate Law and financial services in general, in June 2012, whilst continuing his private practice, he joined the consultancy department at KSi Malta, an audit and consultancy financial services firm. At Ksi (Malta) his contribution was in the form of providing legal advice in both Corporate, Civil and Regulatory and Compliance issues.
Presently, Dr. Fenech Vella has set-up his own practice in Financial Services specializing mainly in corporate law, regulatory and compliance financial services practice including company formations including tax advice relating to benefits in setting up a company in Malta. He also provides clients with company administrations, domiciliations and re-domiciliations, on-going secretarial assistance (including drafting of Company resolutions), back office and virtual office.
Prior to joining the law course he worked for four years as a Purchasing Manager in a local services company and he was also a journalist.
His other interests include reading books on international politics and economics, history and music, especially sacred music. This interest coupled with the attachment to his hometown Rabat inspired him to set up the Paulus Choir and Orchestra in June 2011, which has lately been formalised as a Foundation having as its main aim the organisation of an annual concert of sacred music on the 9th of February, which concert is held at St Paul’s Collegiate Parish Church, Rabat. He spends his free time going for countywalks with his family.
Mark is married to Dr Fiorella and have two children – Clarissa and Paul.
